As you have seen in my previous posts, I am currently obsessed with recreating the ubiquitous Irish brown bread. A task made more amazing by the fact that I am a white bread girl…not for me the crunchy nut and twig types of bread. Just pile on that refined white flour a la French baguettes, scali bread, sub rolls, brioche etc. and I’m good to go. But, I will eat lashings of Irish brown bread if provided with same.
So in an effort to be able to reproduce this on demand,I am commencing official experimentation.
Herewith, recipe #1, courtesy of married an irish farmer.
Simple, non rising quick bread of all purpose and stoneground wheat flour, baking soda, buttermilk, salt and honey.
I liked it, but I didn’t love it. It comes close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, soooooo…. This isn’t THE ONE
