Seventy years ago this morning, the Allies invaded Europe to begin the reversal of the fortunes of war that would close the European theatre of WWII about 11 months later. The television and web this week is full of tributes and analysis as on every significant anniversary, but perhaps the best media exploration of the days’ events will be on BBC Radio 4 all day today. Here’s what makes it grand. Some of today’s most revered and accomplished actors as well as truly rising stars are the voices of the announcers from June 6, 1944. They include Patrick Stewart, Toby Jones and (sigh) Benedict Cumberbatch.
